New Book Series: Little Leonardo’s Fascinating World
Leonardo da Vinci was the original Renaissance man– he was not only a brilliant artist, but he also contributed significantly to the areas of anatomy, geology, astronomy, and architecture.
In light of his legacy, the Little Leonardo’s Fascinating World is a new series of books aimed at encouraging kids’ interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. These books are beautifully illustrated and full of great information.
One of my favorite things about this set of books is that they are very diverse- both boys and girls are well-represented in the pictures, along with a wide variety of skin colors and cultures. As a bonus: at the end of each book, kids learn about a few important scientists- who they are, when they lived, an illustrated picture, and what they are known for.
Kids can learn about a wide variety of scientists: what do botanists study? How about nuclear physicists? Sociologists? What tools do scientists use?
Fascinating World of Engineering
In this book, kids learn about different kinds of engineers and some examples of what they work on. I must admit that I didn’t quite know all the fields in which engineers work!
“From when you wake up in the morning until you go to sleep at night, art is a part of everything you do.” It’s so true! Kids learn about all the different kinds of art and how it influences our everyday life.
“When will I ever really use math in real life?” This book answers that very question :). Kids learn about using math while traveling, cooking, sports, and building, as well as some of the different categories of math.
Fascinating World of Technology
I really like how this book didn’t immediately jump to the idea that technology is about computers and robots, but instead introduces technology as inventions– of the wheel, printing press, TV, power transmission system. It discusses some interesting current technology that will inspire kids to think about all the possibilities of what is yet to come!
This is a great set of books for kids who are interested in learning more about the different areas of STEAM and how they might want to continue to learn in the future!
You can find these books on Amazon, your local bookstore, or your library (and if they’re not there yet, ask your library to order them!).
A special thanks to Gibbs Smith Publisher for sending us these books to review.
