Indian for Everyone {a cookbook review}
We love to try new things in the kitchen. While the kids won’t always necessary love everything we make, they’re at least open to trying it.
Last weekend we had some friends in town and thought it’d be a perfect time to try to make some vegetable samosas from our new cookbook, Indian for Everyone. Samosas tend to be a bit more labor intensive, so we thought with 2 more adults around, we were all more likely to enjoy the experience.
We were right. Jake and I put together the filling while our guests were resting from a morning full of Easter Egg hunts, and then we all shared the love of assembling them upon wake-up.
They were a bit spicy, so we provided both sour cream and a fruity yogurt dip to cut the pizzazz a little.
Indian for Everyone is a cookbook designed to help families cook Indian food in a fun and healthy way. The author, Anupy Singla, and her family love to cook together, and she wanted to provide a way for other families to learn a new skill and get some quality time together in the kitchen while expanding the family’s palette. Her cookbook is FULL of traditional Indian foods, along with a bunch of pages on spices and methods of cooking that was HUGELY helpful to us as we venture into the world of Indian food. Up until this point, the only Indian meal in our monthly recipe cycle is Tikka Masala. I’d love to add samosas now too!
Singla also created a food and housewares company called Indian as Apple Pie (so clever!). We got to try out a set of her spices – Cumin Seeds, Turmeric Powder, Coriander Powder, Garam Masala, Red Chile Powder & Mustard Seeds while cooking from her cookbook, and it was SO GREAT to have them all on hand without having to search high and low for some hard-to-find spices.
If you’re looking to spice things up in the kitchen, we recommend checking her out from the local library or your local bookstore!
