5 Easy Peasy After School Snacks
When the kids get home from school, they are ready for a snack. And not just a teensy eensy bit of a snack. They’re looking for something that will quiet down their rumbling bellies while they work on their homework, go outside and play, or just decompress with a game or a good book. It’s important to me that I give them a snack that fuels their brain and their body, and not just something empty of any nutrition.
It’s also important that these snacks are EASY to make. Because when the kids get home from school, there’s not time for slaving away in the kitchen. Sometimes I’ll even bring the snacks when I pick them up after school so they can enjoy them on the walk home! Here are 5 of our current, go-to snacks that are both kid and mom-approved:
These peanut butter balls consist of just a couple ingredients, making them easy to whip up at the last minute. And if I’m on my A-game? I can make them on the weekend, pop them in the freezer, and just thaw out the amount I need!
Traditional Popcorn (or change it up with Vanilla Almond popcorn!)
I was gifted a popcorn popper for my birthday, and we’re making great use of it. Add a teensy bit of coconut oil to the bottom, dump in a half a cup of popcorn kernels, and wallah! A crunchy snack when the kids have the munchies.
Crackers with cheese and lunch meat
We are LOVING smoked gouda crackers with a slice of real gouda cheese and a small bit of turkey on top. It’s amazing how satisfying these little guys are!
My kids rarely choose vegetables for a snack, but when I offer big carrots? They are totally game. I’m not positive I know why they love them so much more than baby carrots, but I tend to like the taste more too! Eat them plain or pair them with hummus!
Eat this by itself or with a dollop of yogurt – either way it’s amazing and packed full of both protein and yumminess. The kids will think they are getting a sweet treat. You’ll be happy you are giving them a wholesome, fueling snack.
With all these snacks, we’ve been pairing Capri Sun Organic juice drink. The kids love it because it’s delicious, and I’m a fan because it’s a certified USDA organic juice drink that contains a serving of fruit in each pouch –and each pouch provides ½ cup fruit juice, which is one serving of fruit according to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. No artificial flavors, no preservatives, no added sugars (just the fruit juice)—yes please. They’re so easy to just throw into the stroller and drink on the side of the playground! Capri Sun Organic juice drinks come in 4 flavors (fruit punch, tropical punch, apple, and grape), but our favorite is apple! Remember, snack time doesn’t have to be elaborate. Offer wholesome foods and keep it simple!
