A Valentine’s Cookie for the “Nerdy” People in Your Life
The kids’ favorite cookies to make is cut-out sugar cookies. They love the rolling and the cookie-cutting and the decorating and sneaking little bits of sugar cookie dough when I’m not looking.
AND, we love Nerds. They are tiny. Intensely delicious. And we happened to have quite a few packs we had gotten in the after-Christmas clearance aisle at Target ($.30 a box, baby!). While I had imagined we would use them when we went to the movie theater, the rest of the family had other ideas.
I haven’t settled on a sugar cookie recipe that I’m totally in love with, but for this batch, we used this one from In Katrina’s Kitchen— it’s pretty good! I love that you don’t have to chill the dough overnight. 🙂 The cookies had great consistency and were a bit chewy (which I love). The dough was a bit crumbly, but tasted delicious. I adjusted the recipe slightly (see recipe below).
You want to know what baking with four kids looks like?
When the dough was made, I divided it up evenly between each kid and told them this was their dough. They could make as many cookies as they wanted with it, decorating however they like, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. IT WAS FANTASTIC. No one was fighting over who made more or who was hogging all the dough, etc etc. They took their time and didn’t argue- yee haw!
