Last Minute Snack: Chocolate Mint Puppy Chow
Two things about Christmas that I want to talk about here, in this “Eat” post. First, minty desserts just make me think of winter and, thusly, Christmas. So it makes sense to make a minty dessert post right before Christmas. Second, with Christmas around the corner, people are getting together for all sorts of reasons: plays, performances, parties, parentage and progeny promenades (aka getting together with your family). And if people are getting together, there better be food! And what’s a meal without something sweet to end it on? And that’s where this last minute snack of Chocolate Mint Puppy Chow comes in and steals the show.
This is seriously the easiest thing to make, and you can eat it right away (or save it if you have the self control!). Just four ingredients, and you’ve got yourself a tasty treat.
For the chocolate mint factor, I used Make n Mold Dark Mint candy wafers. I usually get mine on sale at my local A. C. Moore (a craft store). I prefer these over the Wilton kind because they generally melt better for me, and I love this sweet creations line they have. So many yummy flavors. You could easily make a different kind of puppy chow just by changing out the candy wafers and keeping or removing the cocoa powder.
I also recently tried coating the puppy chow with the powdered sugar mixture in a bowl, and it was way, way, way harder than using a plastic bag. So save yourself the trouble and use a plastic bag. 🙂
