Caramel Apple Energy Balls
One common problem we have around our house is the horrible hangry. It happens with one 4-year-old in particular and it is BAD. I’ve found that it has become such a problem that I’ve put some serious work into adjusting her meals.
I must include some serious protein in her breakfast.
I can’t skip morning snack for her. In case we’re out and about, I’ll put a small protein snack in my purse, just in case (mostly some kind of trail mix).
I was trying to eliminate the afternoon snack of the day, because who needs to eat 5 times a day? My hangry girl, that’s who.
I’ve come across all kinds of energy ball recipes lately, and have been a bit turned off by them because- dates. Yelch. Not normally a fan. But these caramel apple energy balls? These are DELICIOUS and so easy. They took the girls and I only 5 minutes from start to finish. A big thanks to the Melrose Family for this inspiration (I adapted it a bit to fit our desired consistency and tastes).
1 cup of pitted dates
1 cup of dried apples
1 cup of oats
2 tsp cinnamon
1 swirl of honey on top (what? you don’t know that “swirl” is a thing? oh it’s a thing.)
- Simply put all the ingredients in the food processor and process until it’s a consistency that you can form into balls.
These were gone in 24 hours, so if you want them around for a while, maybe make a double batch? 🙂
