It’s May, so do you know what that means?
The beginning of our May Missionary series! Each May, we spend some of the Fridays talking about a missionary from past or present who has helped to show people the love of God through sharing the good news of Jesus. In past years, we’ve given some background on a variety of missionaries, along with some resources to help teach your kids about them.
We have several friends who are Bible translators with Wycliffe, and they are truly unsung heroes. They work tirelessly for years and years and years– their whole careers- to help make sure people who have never heard the Gospel (and even those that have) have the Bible in their native language. It’s incredibly tedious work at times, but foundational to the making and teaching of disciples.
Around the World with Kate and Mack is a book that helps kids learn about the world, languages, Bible translation, and missions in a holistic way. In the book, kids from all over the world share a bit about their country, their language, their culture, and what’s going on in relation to Bible translation.
The book is beautifully done, is incredibly respectful of cultures, and most of all, is a resource that helps us point even our littlest to the work that God is doing all over the world in the hearts and minds and languages of His children.
Our plan is to use this book this summer as a way to start our day. It’ll be a great jumping off point for some simple map work, learning about the world, praying, etc. Asante and I have had continually unattained goals of learning the names of every country in the world, and I told him that in order for him to go back to school in the fall, him and I will BOTH have to know the countries. *Gulp* 🙂 Nothing heavy, just some casual learning about different countries and cultures; and what a great way to kick it off each morning!
Guess what? Wycliffe sent me an extra book and we’re giving it away to one of you all! Leave a comment, and then share on FB, Twitter for extra entries. I haven’t heard much about this around the mom blogs, so let’s get it out there! 🙂
