Me, Taxes, and TurboTax
Being the mother of a two-year-old, I hear “me!” a lot. It just comes with the territory. And, truthfully, it can be super annoying. But I can understand the sentiment. I like doing things myself. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishing something that I set out to do, especially if it’s something new or something I have deemed difficult. Doing taxes falls into both of those categories for me.
And that’s where the beauty of TurboTax comes in.
TurboTax is all about doing it yourself. But they make it easy (and even funny sometimes). I really appreciate that. And since I am a mother of three, time by myself and time with my husband are precious commodities to me. I don’t want to waste even a moment, so having the flexibility to be able to do our taxes in chunks (you can save and come back later) and being able to do it in our own home (hello, no babysitter!) really were great selling points to me.
And we still feel confident that we are getting our maximum refund. This is the way I like to check things off of my list.
So when you first use the TurboTax website, you are given a nice pictorial checklist to see which progam is recommended for you. If we were just a family, we would have been eligible for TurboTax‘s Absolute Zero program.
With Absolute Zero, you can file your federal and state taxes for absolutely zero money. That sounds pretty awesome to me.
But this year, we bought our first house. And my husband, the saver and financial planner of the family (I love that man!), made some investment transactions this year, so we went with the Premier.
What I really appreciate about TurboTax is that they make this necessary part of adulthood easy. And the math teacher in me can really get behind how they take the time to clarify how the refund was calculated.
And I certainly appreciate that number!
My husband and I have worked really hard to get out of our student loan debt, so we take our money seriously. We want to be wise with it; we want to be God-honoring with it; and we want to control it, not be controlled by it. TurboTax has been our helper nearly every year of our marriage (excluding the time we worked overseas), and we intend to keep using it. It’s nice to have the peace of mind that things are taken care of.
My two-year-old self is pretty proud of me.
