DIY Gift: Box of Sunshine
Sometimes, people just need a little lift in their spirits. And I can’t think of a better way to do that than send them a box of sunshine!
I saw this idea over on Sometimes Creative, and I logged it away for when I would need it. Turns out I needed it a couple of weeks ago. My best friend was feeling quite down and under the weather, so in an effort to cheer her up (even if only momentarily), I made up this box.
I started with a plain cardboard box, and I lined it with yellow cardstock because that’s what I had on hand. Yellow construction paper or tissue paper would work just fine. Or if you can plan enough ahead, you can paint it like Sometimes Creative did.
Then I filled it with yellow things. You can obviously put whatever you like, but these are the things I included: a yellow shirt, yellow lip balm, lemon tea, lemonade sparkling water, coconut pineapple sparkling water, yellow underwear, peanut M&Ms, and Sour Patch kids.
Then to fill it in, I put scraps of yellow paper, accordioned, to make it a little festive. And I dotted the non-yellow part with yellow dots.
I then closed it with some yellow yarn and a very rudimentary sun.
And I gave it to her while I played “Happy” on a phone. (This song just makes me want to dance. I can’t help but smile and bust a move.)
All in all, it was a really fun project to put together, and I think it was a little bright spot in her day. So definitely a win in my book.
