Homemade Hot Chocolate
I know our readers live all over the country, but here in Pennsylvania we have gotten really slammed this winter. I have lots track of how many storms we have had, and how many snow days my children have to make up! So while I concentrate on ignoring the 12 inches of snow we are supposed to get tomorrow, I thought I’d try out this recipe for homemade hot chocolate to keep us all warm and toasty.
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup hot water
1/8 tsp salt
4 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
- Mix cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and hot water together in a medium saucepan.
- Heat on medium, stirring constantly, until the mixture boils. Boil for one minute, continuing to stir.
- Add milk and heat but do no boil.
- Remove from heat at add vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
|Stirring the chocolate – don’t let it burn!|
|We used half 1% and half whole milk – so nice and creamy!|
You can also spice up your cocoa with some cinnamon, or add peppermint extract instead of vanilla (that’s what I did!). Thanks Momables for the great recipe!
Mmmmm, a real treat compared to our regular from-a-mix hot cocoa! Maybe winter isn’t so bad…
