Play: A Few of Our Favorite Things (Maternity and Baby Remix)
Last April 1st, we announced that Christina and I were both pregnant.
BUT, here we are, 1 year later and Christina has a 8 week year old and I am ready to burst any day! Today we wanted to share a few of our favorite mom and baby products. Hope it’s helpful to those of you who are in this stage of life (or are looking to buy shower gifts for someone who is!).
1. Chewable Vitamins
I’m one of those strange people who has a really hard time swallowing pills, so this pregnancy, I was super happy to find 2 good-tasting vitamins that weren’t too expensive. The first is a regular woman’s vitamin (they also have prenatal), and the second is an iron supplement (sadly I have been slightly anemic with this pregnancy). Both are really quite good and taste like candy.
I discovered these when I had Aly. I had used disposable nursing pads with Asante, and I seriously disliked everything about them- the bulkyness, the waste, etc. With Aly, I decide to try these out and never went back to the disposable! They are so thin, they keep the milk in, and they can be used for a long time (despite the 3 month limit the box says). I had one set for Aly, bought a new set before having Ada, and just bought my third set a couple months ago.
3. Nursing Tanks
I (Christina here) basically live in these things. They are my most favorite thing to wear while nursing. They provide easy access for when your baby wants to eat all the time; they are easy to put on and take off (no clasps!); they are great for layering and not showing your squishy post-pregnancy belly while nursing; and they are comfortable. Multiples are a must!
4. Kindle Book Gift Cards
Christina here again. I had the pleasure of receiving one of these, and it was spectacular. When nursing, my favorite activity is to get immersed in a book. And if I can read that book in the middle of the night without turning on the light via my tablet or phone, then all the better. So this gift card was a great way to satisfy my need for more digital books. My only complaint was that it ran out too soon! 🙂
1. Green Sprouts Waterproof Bibs
I didn’t really have a need for these until having Ada– she was one of those kids who was ALWAYS drooling. We went through several different brands, but none of them worked– the ones without the plastic backing would leave her shirt wet underneath, but the ones with plastic backing were stiff or too crinkly. These bibs are super soft, easily washable, and keep clothes dry underneath.
2. Bumgenius 4.0 Diapers
Once a baby hits 3 months, we put them in these diapers and we ABSOLUTELY love them. I would tend to caution against the hook and loop closures because we have found that those are what typically gets worn down first.
3. A Good Baby Carrier
I (Christina) am known as that babywearing mom in my circles because I do it and I absolutely love it. I honestly don’t know how people get through the day without doing it, especially with multiple children. Babywearing has become an invaluable parenting tool for me. And a quality, comfortable, ergonomic carrier is a must. Some of my favorite buckle carriers are CatBirdBaby and Boba. And some of my favorite wraps are Girasol and Didymos. TheBabyWearer.com is an excellent resource for all things babywearing.
4. Honest Company Products
I (Christina again) got some of these products as a gift for Elliot’s birth, and they are really fantastic products. I received the shampoo/body wash, lotion, and bubble bath, and they are all so great, but I especially love the smell of the shampoo. Mmm. I love smelling Elliot after his bath. And these products are all-natural, plant-based, and free of all harsh chemicals, so you can feel good about using them. I’m curious about their other products, but from what I’ve sampled, I bet they are good.
It seems that with each pregnancy and child, you find new and better things, so what are some of the things that are your favorites? We want to know!
