Grow: Welcoming Advent- Truth in the Tinsel
This week we’re changing it up a little bit– We’re switching it up a little because we wanted to share with you a FANTASTIC Advent resource in enough time for you to gather the supplies before December 1st.
Last year, I came across this fun resource called Truth in the Tinsel It’s written by a creative, smart woman who was a children’s minister in her pre-mom life (you can find her here on ohamanda). Truth in the Tinsel is an advent experience for kids of all ages that includes daily Scripture reading, a short devotion (that includes a great “action point”), and a “how-to” on making an ornament that ties it altogether. The kids and I did it last year together and they looked forward to doing it together each morning after breakfast. Here’s a picture of our completed ornaments:
What I REALLY love about this Advent activity is that it is well-written, creative, and caters to a wide range of ages (my kids really connected to the devotions last year, even at ages 2 and 4. I know they’ll get even more out of it this year). Check out a sample page (Day 21) here to get a little taste to see if it’s something your family would connect with too.
We will be doing it again this year, in an abbreviated form. Because we kept some of our ornaments from last year, we’ll be coloring printable ornaments for those days instead.
Finally, here’s Amanda’s Pinterest board that has other extra thingys to complement the truth in the tinsel experience. 🙂
Later on this week we’ll also be doing a little post of Advent devotionals for parents….so stay tuned if you and your spouse are still looking for something to read through together this year.
